WEEE Recycling & Take-Back
WEEE Recycling & Take-Back (Ireland)

What is WEEE?
WEEE stands for Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment. Vape devices (including rechargeable and disposable electronic devices) and their batteries are classified as e-waste and must be recycled through appropriate collection routes, not placed in household bins.
In Ireland, consumer recycling routes typically include approved retailer take-back points and local authority civic amenity sites. Official guidance confirms that recycling of WEEE and waste batteries is provided through established national systems.
Take-Back: What we accept
We support responsible recycling and take-back for the following items:
- Vape devices / e-cigarette devices (rechargeable or disposable electronic devices) for proper WEEE recycling.
- Loose waste batteries (where applicable) for dedicated battery recycling routes.
- Relevant accessories containing electronics (where applicable), treated as WEEE.
Important: Take-back is subject to safe handling rules. If an item is damaged, leaking, swollen, or otherwise unsafe, it may require a specialist handling route.
How take-back works in practice (Ireland)
Irish guidance for retailers describes a free take-back approach for WEEE on a one-for-one, like-for-like basis when a customer purchases a similar product, and waste batteries are generally taken back free of charge without requiring a purchase.
For vape and e-cigarette devices specifically, WEEE Ireland publishes retailer take-back guidance and outlines practical collection methods used for these items.

FAQ
Can I recycle disposable vapes?
Yes. Disposable vapes contain electronics and a battery and should be treated as WEEE. Do not place them in household bins; use appropriate WEEE take-back or civic amenity routes.
Do I need to buy something to return a battery for recycling?
Irish guidance for battery take-back generally supports free return of waste batteries without requiring a purchase, via designated battery collection points.
Can I return a damaged or leaking battery?
Damaged or leaking batteries may require special handling and may be excluded from standard retailer take-back routes. Follow local authority safety guidance and avoid transporting unsafe batteries without precautions.
Why does this matter for vape devices?
Vape devices and batteries are electrical waste. Correct collection reduces environmental impact and lowers the risk associated with improper disposal of batteries.
