Orange oil - properties and application

Orange oil is one of the most popular essential oils. An interesting fact is that the process of obtaining it is real recycling. It is actually a byproduct of a giant food industry. This beneficial oil is obtained from the waste left over after squeezing the juice, mainly from the skins.

Properties of orange oil

Pure orange oil is characterized by a yellow-orange color which, depending on the quality of the raw material, may even turn into deep orange. The fragrance of the oil is very intense, fresh with a hint of bitterness. You can also feel clear sweet notes in it. It is often described as stimulating, energizing, optimistic. Numerous publications indicate that orange oil is characterized by high biological activity. It contains many volatile active substances such as linalool, decanal, geranial, α-terpineol, neral, dodecanal, citronellal, limonene. It is these compounds that are responsible for the unique properties of this essential oil. Already the ancient Egyptians appreciated its advantages and used it in various ailments. Contemporary aromatherapy appreciates this oil mainly for its calming, harmonizing and stabilizing effects on the nervous system.

The scent of the oil stimulates the appetite and stimulates the digestive system. With its help, you can alleviate gastrointestinal ailments. It can therefore turn out to be an effective method for small fussy eats. Orange oil relaxes and calms down, reduces the effects of stress, allows you to get a cheerful mood. It also improves cognitive functions, promotes the processes of thinking and focusing attention. So it is often used in mixtures to support concentration and learning.

Orange oil - application:

Nature itself often suggests to us which gifts we can use to support our body. It is also this time, because orange peel oil is very helpful in reducing the so-called orange peel, or cellulite. Oil is a very common ingredient in cosmetics that lift and support the reduction of adipose tissue. Moreover, this oil strengthens connective tissue, regenerates and firms. It brings numerous benefits to impure skin due to its antiseptic and cleansing properties. To take advantage of this skin-beneficial effect, add orange oil to your favorite face or body cream or scrub. It is recommended to use no more than 20 drops of oil for every 100 ml of the cosmetic.

The aromatherapeutic use of orange oil can be done in different ways. If you like long, relaxing baths, mix 5-10 drops of essential oil in 1 tablespoon of your favorite base oil, e.g. almond oil, and add to the bath. Orange oil is a great addition to massage oil. Add 6-7 drops to 25 ml of base oil, slightly heat the oil blend and give your body a relaxing massage.

To fill the whole house with a pleasant, fresh aroma of juicy orange, use orange oil or a mixture with its addition to aromatize the air using a diffuser or a ceramic fireplace. The fresh, citrus aroma of the oil can also be a great addition to washing agents - it will give your clothes a lasting, pleasant fragrance. To eliminate the unpleasant smell of the vacuum cleaner bag while vacuuming, it is worth applying a few drops of the oil to it. This will also prevent fungi and mites from multiplying inside.

Due to its antibacterial and antifungal properties, orange oil can also be used to clean floors, kitchen countertops and bathrooms. Research shows that it is able to destroy even E. coli sticks, and at the same time refreshes rooms for a long time.

Orange oil works as a deterrent against mosquitoes, flies and ants. It is enough to massage a little of the product into the skin or apply it to clothing to get the desired effect. This property also works in horticulture, where orange oil can be used to scare away unwanted insects.

Precautions: Orange oil should not be used immediately before sunbathing. Also, do not apply undiluted oil directly on the skin. The main ingredient of orange oil, d-limonene, is a mildly irritating compound and can sometimes cause skin reactions. This may happen during long-term exposure to undiluted preparation, but people with sensitive skin should still use caution.

Orange face oil

The benefits of orange oil should be appreciated by people with problematic acne-prone skin because it has anti-inflammatory, bacteriostatic, toning and astringent properties. You can use orange oil for the face by combining it with a cream or serum, as well as in the form of a care oil, but always diluted, for example in coconut oil or rosehip seed oil. After 15 minutes from applying it to the skin, remove the excess of the preparation with a cotton pad. Such a mixture soothes skin eruptions, moisturizes and nourishes the skin.

Orange oil is also recommended for facial skin with the first signs of aging. It contains vitamin C, which is a powerful antioxidant and also increases collagen synthesis. Homemade cream with orange oil will slow down the appearance of wrinkles. It perfectly blends not only with base oils, but also with rose hydrolate, so it will be perfect as an aromatic additive to creams made on its basis.

Orange oil for hair

Orange oil can become your favorite addition to your shampoo, conditioner or mask, especially if you have oily hair. This oil with a captivating scent helps regulate the secretion of sebum, making the skin and hair greasy more slowly. In addition, it improves the blood supply to the scalp, thanks to which it helps to better nourish the bulbs, and thus accelerate hair growth and reduce hair loss. The antiseptic properties of the oil soothe scalp inflammation and support the treatment of dandruff.
