What should you know about thyme essential oil?

Thyme oil - properties

Thyme oil has strong antibacterial and antifungal properties that are highly valued in medicine. Some people consider thyme oil to be a natural antibiotic because it effectively eliminates many strains of bacteria. For this reason, a popular recommendation of aromatherapists is the use of inhalations and traps containing thyme oil for staphylococcus. When used by inhalation, this essential oil supports expectoration and has an antitussive effect, thus helping to heal respiratory infections. Moreover, thyme essential oil has a beneficial effect on wound healing, as well as has anti-seborrhoeic properties and is suitable for the care of acne-prone skin. It disinfects and prevents the spread of inflammation on the skin, preventing excessive development of pimples. This avoids long-term skin damage and protects against unsightly scars. When applied to the scalp, thyme oil stimulates hair growth and inhibits hair loss, reduces dandruff and strengthens the hair roots. An additional advantage of thyme oil is its beneficial effect on the digestive system. When used regularly, it facilitates digestion and effectively stimulates the work of the liver and intestines.

Thyme oil - fragrance

The characteristic, herbal aroma of thyme oil and its antiseptic properties result from the high content of thymol, a chemical compound from the alcohol group, and terpenes, natural compounds with a slightly bitter aroma. Due to the content of these substances, thyme oil is perfect for aromatherapy to treat sinus, bronchial and lung infections. In addition, this fresh scent is good for your well-being. It helps to relieve nervous and muscle tension, stimulates the nervous system and promotes natural relaxation. Thyme oil is ideal for aromatizing the home, and at the same time disinfects the air. It can be sprayed with an air humidifier, diffuser or aromatherapy fireplace. In the course of sinus infections and other respiratory problems, a sausage with a few drops of thyme oil is recommended.

Thyme oil - application

Thyme oil can be used in the form of inhalation, rubs, baths and compresses. Therapeutic baths with thyme oil stimulate the immune system, warm up and disinfect the respiratory tract. Their use will speed up the treatment of colds and infections, reduce inflammation and make it easier to fall asleep. Thyme oil, mixed with the base oil, can be used in the form of rubs and massages, which are great for relieving pain in muscles and joints. In the course of throat infections or problems with bad breath, it is recommended to perform daily rinses with the addition of a few drops of thyme essential oil. They will help reduce swelling and speed up the regeneration of the mucous membranes. Keep in mind that essential oil is a highly concentrated product, therefore its consumption is not recommended. Also, when applied to the skin, the oil should be dissolved in water, a carrier oil, or added to ready-made creams or ointments.

Thyme oil - what to combine with?

Thyme oil for massage and rubbing can be combined with natural oils such as olive oil, coconut oil, argan oil or jojoba oil. You can also add a few drops to your favorite body cream, face cream, shampoo and conditioner. This oil is perfect as an addition to home hair and face masks. It gives the skin radiance and vitality, effectively cleansing it and evens out its color. The fresh, herbal scent of thyme oil stays on the skin and hair for a long time, pleasantly warming up and giving a feeling of freshness. To create a unique fragrance, thyme oil can be combined with citrus scents, lavender, bergamot, rosemary and geranium. Such a combination, sprayed in the apartment, will create a wonderful atmosphere, and as an addition to a therapeutic bath, it will help to effectively alleviate the symptoms of the disease and relax the entire body.
