Cinnamon oil - properties and action. How to use cinnamon oil?

All kinds of oils and oils are known for their versatile health-promoting and beautifying properties. Cinnamon oil also has this power. It is used as an ingredient in perfumes, body care cosmetics and oral hygiene products. However, these are not all of its miraculous properties, there are many more of them.

What should we know about cinnamon oil?

Cinnamon oil is one of the essential oils obtained from Ceylon cinnamon. This small tree comes from an exotic region of Asia, mainly Sri Lanka and India. It was there that its interesting cinnamon flavor began to be used, but also its healing properties were appreciated. Interestingly, although it comes from Asia, it is produced in Morocco, Madagascar and Seychelles. Currently, cinnamon is known and liked all over the world. It is used as a natural health remedy that eliminates many problems and disorders.

Cinnamon oil is rich not only in essential oils. It contains cinnamaldehyde and cinnamyl acetate, which has fungicidal, disinfecting and bactericidal properties. However, thanks to the presence of flavonoids, tannins, fiber and iron, it is used for various types of skin inflammation. It is characterized by a sweet scent and a light yellow or almost colorless color. Due to its many properties, cinnamon oil is used in the cosmetics (e.g. body cosmetics), food (e.g. flavoring sweets) and aromatherapy industries.

How is cinnamon oil made?

Cinnamon oil is made using the steam distillation method and Ceylon cinnamon bark. This type of oil can also be obtained from the leaves and roots of this plant, but it will not be a wholesome product. In both cases, the basic ingredients are cinnamic aldehyde (it is mainly related to the biological activity of the oil) and eugenol (vanillin is mainly obtained from it). The former dominates in bark oil, while in other oils its amount does not exceed a few percent (95% is eugenol).

Health-promoting properties of cinnamon oil

Cinnamon essential oil contains many valuable substances and active compounds that have a beneficial effect not only on our body, but also on the well-being. All thanks to the presence of the aforementioned cinnamaldehyde, which has an antiseptic (antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal), stimulating (stimulates, among others, secretion of gastric juice) and calming effects (soothes the nervous system).

Due to its bactericidal effect, it can be safely used in the treatment of acne and other skin infections. Perfectly moisturizes and nourishes the skin, and removes all inflammation. It is enough to apply the oil directly to acne-affected areas and rinse it off with warm water after about 30 minutes.

Cinnamon oil also has a beneficial effect on the hair. It nourishes, moisturizes and regenerates them. It is perfect for inflammation of the hair follicles or other inflammations of the scalp. You have to mix it with the addition of honey and a little olive oil. Put the resulting mixture on the scalp and leave it for about 15 minutes, then wash your hair and rinse it with warm water.

The anti-inflammatory properties of cinnamon oil mean that it effectively soothes all kinds of aches and pains while relaxing the body. People who suffer from joint pain, it is recommended to frequently consume cinnamon alone and additionally use the essential oil of this spice. On the other hand, people with chronic migraines should also use cinnamon oil regularly as it reduces pressure and also improves mood.

Both cinnamon and cinnamon oil are excellent sources of antioxidants. They destroy any cancer cells that appear. All thanks to the presence of this miraculous aldehyde, which supports the prevention of colon cancer. It not only removes toxins, but also supports the regeneration of damaged cells and protects against carcinogens.

The active substances contained in cinnamon oil have the ability to lower blood sugar levels, thus increasing insulin activity and lowering glycemia, relieving the pancreas and boosting metabolism. This means that the oil helps in reducing the symptoms of type II diabetes. What's more, regular use of cinnamon oil regulates the level of triglycerides and lowers the level of bad cholesterol (LDL).

Thanks to its irritating properties, cinnamon oil increases the secretion of gastric juice, which improves the digestive process. Therefore, when used orally, it can effectively facilitate and support weight loss. However, it should be remembered that when used in excessive amounts, it can lead to inflammation of the gastric mucosa. On the other hand, this oil removes harmful substances, bacteria and toxins from our body that inhibit our metabolism.

Another property of cinnamon oil is its ability to cleanse the mouth and freshen the breath. That is why it is often used in the production of chewing gums and also as an ingredient in toothpaste.

Cinnamon oil has many benefits for women. Mainly because it soothes cramps and menstrual pain. In addition, new moms have noticed that regular use of this oil supports the production of milk.

Cinnamon oil is also used in aromatherapy. Regular infusions and inhaling it improves mood, reduces fatigue and relieves muscle tension. Thus, it increases mental abilities such as remembering and concentration. Its use is also recommended in the case of mild depression symptoms.

It is also an effective preparation which acts as a deterrent to insects, especially mosquitoes. No wonder then that it is a common ingredient in preparations for these insects. What's more, when applied topically to the skin at the site of the bite, it provides immediate relief.

How should you use cinnamon oil?

Cinnamon oil has many health-promoting properties. You can use it both externally and internally. It is usually used for rubbing the skin. It is worth rubbing a small amount of the oil several times a day. As for oral use, it should be taken diluted, e.g. with liquid or sugar. Otherwise, it may irritate the stomach.

Cinnamon oil - is it for everyone?

Due to the fact that cinnamon is irritating and has a strong effect, it is not recommended for everyone. The compounds in it can cause severe allergic reactions. Therefore, any essential oils, including cinnamon oil, should not be used by children and pregnant women.
