What is Aromatherapy?

Aromatherapy - a branch of alternative (natural) medicine that uses essential oils and other fragrances to positively influence mood, cognition and health, the term was created by the French chemist Rene-Maurice Gatefosse, a researcher of essential oils whose properties are described in a book under this title.

Aromatherapy - essential oils

Volatile substances are secondary metabolites of plants, which, inter alia, play a communication role, protect against harmful insects and against diseases, but also act as substances that attract beneficial and pollinate insects. In a word, they play a very important role in the ecosystem.

The obtained essential oils do not constitute a uniform chemical group. Most of them have a very rich and complex chemical composition, such as rose oil, which has about 500 ingredients. However, there are oils with a much less complex composition, such as mint or goldfinch.

A characteristic feature of essential oils is a specific and intense aroma, peculiar to a given plant and therapeutic efficacy in low concentrations. Essential oils are volatile, have a lipophilic structure and do not dissolve in water. However, they dissolve very well in vegetable oils, emulsions, gels and ethanol, and these properties are used by aromatherapy.

Therapeutic value of essential oils

The therapeutic value, i.e. the appropriate chemical profile of essential oils, depends on many factors, including: soil, climate or plant genotype.

Extremely important is the human factor related to the way of treating the entire ecosystem, the way of cultivation, respect for the laws of nature, sometimes harvesting the plant, the ability to harvest and professionalism in the proper distillation and proper treatment of the oil after the process of obtaining it. Any external interference is of great importance for the quality.

The method of managing the waste plant material used in the distillation process is also important. It is often used for soil fertilization, for example, and this initiative also depends on the ecological and ethical invention of the producer.

In summary, many factors affect the quality of the entire production process, differences may appear at any stage. Starting from the preparation of the soil, respecting its natural potential, and when collecting from wild sources, controlling that the harvest of plant material proceeds without destroying and emptying nature to the bottom, to ecological management of used parts of plants, and finally, ethical treatment of the raw material, i.e. essential oil.

We experience many additional benefits by using essential oils. Such as:

  • wonderfully regenerated and soothed skin, with enhanced metabolism and microcirculation
  • cellulite reduction
  • improved well-being

This range of benefits can be achieved during one care treatment, performed at home or in a massage parlor.

This is the essence of the synergy of active compounds, gifts of plant origin.

The inhaled essential oils affect the sense of smell, influencing the limbic system of the brain, creating our emotions. By using this mechanism, in order to consolidate positive associations, essential oils are used, for example, to reduce stress and improve the emotional state of a person.

For example, if you have a public presentation and you usually get very stressed because you want to do your best, try this method.

Choose an essential oil, I personally suggest:

  • petitgrain
  • grapefruit
  • neroli
  • virginian cedar

or another that will speak to your heart and inhale it, in the form of an inhalation stick, diffusion or from an aromatherapy fireplace.

Start a week early, two or three times a day, for half an hour, then half an hour before the presentation.
Remember the intention of what you are doing. Repeat this personal ritual in situations that stress you out. You will be pleasantly surprised by the positive effects.

You can use essential oils at work to increase productivity, enhance concentration, improve communication, and purify the air naturally. In this case, citrus oils work well:

  • lemon
  • bergamot
  • grapefruit
  • and eucalyptus oils
  • lemongrass
  • tea tree
  • niaouli
  • juniper
  • or cypress

After returning home, reach for your favorite oils to relieve stress and smoothly enter the private sphere of your life.

The essential oil can help with that

  • lavender
  • coriander
  • Clary Sage
  • marjoram
  • tangerine
  • citronella
  • Roman chamomile
  • or irreplaceable neroli oil

If you want to strengthen your well-being, consider the oil

  • Clary Sage
  • rose geranium
  • of cypress
  • yarrow
  • with chaste
  • lavender
  • marjoram
  • palm tree
  • or fennel

If you meditate or practice mindfulness, reach for essential oils and you will enter a completely new path of development. Personally, I often use the oil of frankincense, elemi and myrrh. I combine these three balsamic aromas of oils distilled from resins.

Essential oils support and make sleep more pleasant, purify the air, help build relationships and strengthen the circles of common interests. They fulfill many tasks, thanks to which your everyday life can be more beautiful, joyful and inspiring and simply healthier.

You can create your own space by using "something" that cannot be seen in the air, but is still noticeable by the sensitive sense of smell. The main aspect of aromatherapy is diffusion and inhalation of essential oils. This is the most beautiful thing. So simple and so effective, and so complicated by the nature of its green chemistry.

By delving into the content, next to each oil, you will discover why aromatherapists, holistic therapists, TMC doctors and therapists, as well as Ayurvedic and phytotherapy pharmacists value essential oils. You can also add yourself here :), no matter what your profession. Plants support everyone with their benefits :).

Aromatherapy is a method of holistic therapy

I want you to know that aromatherapy is a method of holistic therapy that uses essential oils, for which the physical body and human psyche are treated equally, as the overall subject of therapeutic action. Skillful application of this method helps to maintain the psychosomatic balance of the human body. It increases the quality of life.

It is based on the healing properties of the plant world, but instead of using whole plants or their parts, it uses essential oils and hydrolates obtained from them, which have an extremely wide spectrum of activity.
